Jamming Out to Half and Whole Notes
Woo hoo for the beginning of Thanksgiving Break! I've been battling an upset stomach for most of the day, and didn't get the nap that I had planned on taking, but it's been a pretty great day. This afternoon Jillian and I went to our credit union to apply for a personal loan. That was fun and exciting - well, as fun and exciting as filling out a two page application can be. We should know by the middle of next week if it works out.
While Jill cooked dinner tonight, I pulled out my old, crappy electric guitar and started practicing. I never learned how to play it; I was always more comfortable playing the bass. But lately I've been feeling the urge to play some music again, and I think I'm going to try to start practicing both the guitar and the bass on a regular basis. So tonight I started at the beginning of the beginner's guitar book, and worked my way through two different sets of 5 note scales. Won't it be fun to see where this heads?
After a yummy, healthy dinner of angel hair pasta, chicken, and steamed brocolli, Jill and I went to Northern Light, the local espresso bar. Jill drank chai, and I had a candy-cane latte, and after a brief bit of chatting, we settled into Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and The Best Spiritual Writing 2002, respectively. It was a nice hour or so out of the house. I really enjoyed what I read; poems titled "A Dream of Solstice" by Seamus Heaney, "All, The Fact, The Answer" by Wendell Berry, and a great essay that deals with the Jewish perspective on Torah, and its relation to the Christian Gospel and justification by faith (Phil, I have stuff underlined and an e-mail will be forthcoming). Its title is "Gamboling with God" and is written by Harvey Cox. It is an excellent short essay.
I repeat: Woo hoo for the beginning of Thanksgiving Break!
