On War and Non-Violence
I found the following quote from Thomas Merton at the bottom of The Thomas Merton Center's (Pittsburgh, PA) website for their monthly publication titled The New People:
"I am against war, against violence, against violent revolution, for peaceful settlement of differences, for nonviolent but nevertheless radical changes. Change is needed, and violence will not really change anything: at most it will only transfer power from one set of bull-headed authorities to another."
I'm not sure what comments I have to make about this statement; I just found it to be well-written, and at least somewhat reflective of how I've been thinking about, particularly, the U.S. and Iraq.
