Sadly, Turkey Break Is Over

What a wonderful, relaxing break I had! We spent time each day with friends; Saturday night Jillian and I went out to eat with my sister-in-law Jennifer, and her friends that have started to adopt us into their group - the afore mentioned Jamie, Janet, and Jeremy - as well as Pat and Chris, another Chris, and Troy. Did you catch all that? We went to a place called Hops and Barleys on Main Street in Luzerne. For you beer connoisseurs out there, can you believe I had a bottle of Corsendonk Abbey Ale for just $3.25? My dinner wasn't great (the appetizers were good), but now I know where to go for cheap(er) Corsendonk. I love that brew!

Probably the coolest part of the night was how we attacked it: we arrived, ordered drinks, then waited a bit and ordered appetizers, which the whole table shared. We took our time, snacked, drank, and had good conversations and quite a bit of storytelling before even ordering our food. It may have taken us close to 2 hours to order our actual dinner! In total, we took up the back corner of the restaurant for about 3 hours, and it was a good time.

Sunday was pretty laid back - like the rest of break, no alarm was set and we stayed in bed until we felt like getting up. Then after breakfast and a bit of TV, we went back to bed. The evening was rounded out with a small potluck at Janet's. Janet and Jer made a great creamy asparagus soup, Jillian and I brought a chicken bruschetta dish, and we enjoyed a bottle of red wine called "Love My Goat"from Bully Hill Vineyards. Another amazing dessert came courtesy of Jennifer - her take on Jimmy Carter cake, which we have affectionately re-named "Jenny Garuba cake."

Did I mention that on Saturday I served as a Lector at Church? Would you believe I had to read about orgies and drunkenness from the lectern?
