Valentine's Day Weekend

I decided that my wife Jillian and I should "celebrate our love" all weekend, especially since Valentine's Day falls on Monday this year. It happens to be two firsts for us: our first Valentine's Day spent in Pennsylvania (the last two years we traveled to Connecticut to spend it with friends) and our first Valentine's Day as a married couple. It was a great weekend. We ordered Chinese and did laundry together Friday night then visited with some friends; Saturday we got most of our errands done, including a yearly visit to the vet for Graham, ate at Panera, took a nap, and started to look for new sneakers for me; Sunday, for a change of pace, we went to Elm Park United Methodist Church in downtown Scranton (it's huge, old, beautiful, and has really friendly people), had lunch at the Olive Garden, coffee at a new place in East Scranton, relaxed at home, and watched Love, Actually and then ate leftovers while crying off and on throughout Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.

I gave Jill a few small gifts, about one a day over the weekend. First it was chocolate from Gertrude Hawks (except I can never remember what kind she likes, and we ended up exchanging it on Saturday. Vanilla Butter Cream...Vanilla Butter Cream), then it was a nifty Nalgene water bottle with a 'biner, and finally a book called "102 Ways to Celebrate Love." This was appropriate because Jill gets in kicks when she likes to say to me "we should celebrate our love." Now we have an instruction book!

I was given a cool gift from Target and 4 packs of Skittles. Mmmmm, Skittles. I may have to eat some during my next class.

Last night I walked out to the car in the brisk, cold air and paused...I breathed in, looked at the dark night sky, and thought, "Today I am glad to be alive."
