Praises for the Bruderhof
I've been enjoying the daily e-mails I receive each weekday from the Bruderhof communities for almost a year now. Their Daily Dig is great; what's even greater is that there is a plethora of free e-books on the Bruderhof communities website. Greater still is that some are offered in the print version free if you link to their website!
I received in the mail over the weekend J. Heinrich Arnold's book Discipleship: Living for Christ in the Daily Grind. With an introduction by Henri Nouwen, how can you go wrong? It's a collection of Arnold's writings, from speeches, sermons, letters, etc., all dealing with the issue of discipleship. I've read the introduction and the first two sections on The Inner Life and Repentance, and I'm highly impressed.
I'm having a tough time deciding if I should bring this book to school with me so I can blog some quotes from it. The trouble is, I think I want to make some spiritual reading part of my end-of-the-day routine, and having the book on my nightstand next to our bed makes that much easier. Hopefully I can find a way to compromise. Perhaps I'll use the free e-book version while at school to try and find any passages that struck me in a particular way the night before.
In other news, Jillian's sister and fiance have placed a winning bid on a house, and hope to close on it in about a month. This means that Jill and I will be moving into the house they currently share with her grandfather. The idea of living in a house rather than an attic-floor apartment is soooo nice! I'm looking forward to moving in there and enjoying the extra space - and the washer and dryer! I'm also looking forward to getting to know Jill's grandpa a little better. We have nice little conversations most times that we visit, and I'm looking forward to more of those.
Before this becomes an even more daunting and unreadable post because I'm jabbering on and on, I'm going to silence myself and wish you all a blessed week.
