River Horse Belgian Frostbite

Tuesday is my longest day of the week. I work from 8 a.m. until 12:30 p.m., have a half hour break, then have class from 1 until 4 p.m. After class I work from 4 until 6 p.m., and then I have a night class from 6 until 8:30. The past two Tuesdays I felt like going out for a drink after the day was over; last week Jillian and I went to Northern Light for a coffee, and last night we went to the Banshee for a real drink.

I love the Banshee; it's an Irish pub in downtown Scranton, and I think it is mainly the atmosphere that does it for me. Oh, and the myriad beers available on draft and in the bottle. But back to the atmosphere of the place: there is a ton of Irish paraphanelia on the walls - advertisements for different beers and whiskeys, posters commemorating the Irish struggle, entertainment posters, rugby jerseys, etc. The color palate is very dark and the place is filled with great, rich wood. There is a long bar that is very beautiful, and along with table and some booth seating, there are also these nooks that are kind of partitioned off with quarter walls. I'm sure there's a real name for these things, but I don't know what it is. Anyway, the whole place has a great feel to it and seems like the place to go to sit with friends and talk the night away over some beer.

Last night I tried a beer from New Jersey's River Horse brewery called Belgian Frostbite. This is their 6 month winter seasonal brew, and it is a Belgian Ale. The Frostbite isn't nearly as sweet as other Belgians that I've had, but it was pleasing. My beer lingo is lacking, but I would say that it is only slightly, very slightly bitter, semi-smooth, and it has an interesting aftertaste that takes a few seconds to really hit. At 8% Alcohol By Volume, it is one of the brewery's higher drafts in alcohol content. I enjoyed this one and would recommend giving it a shot if you come across it.

Jill had her old standby, a Woodchuck draft, and a chicken caesar wrap. I'm a fan of the Banshee's caesar wraps; they're probably the best I've had. We sat and talked (well, I did most of the talking; filling her in on the day with class and the psych exam I failed - yes, failed. It was a ridiculous exam) and it was all really nice. We spent probably an hour or so there before heading home. I think this may turn into a regular Tuesday night event; it just seems to be a nice way to wind down after the long day at work.
