An Active Holiday Weekend

What a great weekend! My wife and I had a very active weekend. On Saturday, while Jill was meeting with the bridesmaids for her sister's wedding to discuss bridal shower plans, I hit the pool at the Y and got in a good 2000 yard workout. Triathlon training continues to go well, as long as my shins heal from overuse about two weeks ago.

After watching Return of the Jedi Saturday afternoon, we loaded up the car with our bikes and headed to Simpson, PA (about 20 minutes from our apartment) to ride the D&H Rails to Trails on our mountain bikes. It was our first time there, and we rode about 6 miles. I really enjoyed it. We were off the road, surrounded by trees, riding next to the Lackawanna River. I'll probably return on my own sometime soon to take a long ride. It's fun to maneuver over and around the rocks and the gulleys and the tree branches and all of these things. The evening was topped off with a stop by Jill's mom's house for some free food - shishkabobs, smoked chicken, corn on the cob, ribs. Mmmmmmm.

Sunday I felt like I was coming down with a bad cold...who hates colds in the summertime? We went to the late service for the first time in a few weeks and stayed for fellowship time, catching up with some of our new church friends. We hit up Abe's Deli for a late breakfast special. After a nap, I made it to the Y for a workout in the weightroom.

Monday we travelled to Ricketts Glen State Park and hiked the (roughly) 4 mile Falls Trail and saw a bunch of waterfalls. I took photos on the first half of the loop; they'll be posted as soon as I get them developed (hopefully tomorrow). It was a challenging hike, navigating fairly steep stone steps and trails on the first half, and then climbing similar terrain on the way back up. The falls were pretty, and it was awesome to be able to walk right up to some of them for photos. The drawback was that they weren't rushing with water. I'd like to go back a few days after some strong, or at least consistent, rainy weather.

We were both beat when we got home, and my cold had kicked it up a notch. Today I'm feeling a little bit better.

Today's weight: 211 | Today's workout: Stairmaster 10 min.; Elliptical 30 min.; Bike 20 min.
